The Space Race

In 3A, we are learning about the Space Race. The Space Race was a competition between Russia and America, the winner was the country with the first person on the moon. We have learnt that the first living creatures in space were fruit flies, sent by the Russians. Then the Russians sent a monkey called Albert and a dog called Laika. The first people on the moon were Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong from America.

We are Astronauts!

In year 3 we are learning about space. We did a timeline from V2 to Tim Peake and a front cover with lots of space words. I found out that fruit flies were sent to space with a supply of corn to eat. I also learnt Albert the monkey was sent to space in V2. I have been looking forward to this topic since year 2.

We have had a great week in Eagle Owls getting to know each other. We have played in the continuous provision areas and painted super self-portraits. We wrote some fantastic pieces about our holidays and spent an afternoon playing phonics games. We went apple picking, did lots of reading and really enjoyed seeing what everybody put in their envelopes.

This week in Eagle Owls we have had a lovely time getting to know each other. We played in the continuous provision areas and painted some fantastic self-portraits. We did some great pieces of writing all about our summer holidays and had an afternoon playing phonics games. Puzzle Time

Today in maths we have been looking at a chess-related puzzle ‘Bishop’s move’. This has really challenged the children to find the least amount of moves needed to move counters from one side to the other using the ‘bishop’ way of moving. There was a lot of frustration but it woke them up!
